This is a field the least researched, particularly when evaluating effects of nurses mentoring. The purpose of the quantitative study is to ascertain the situation and effects of nurses mentoring for university students during their practice. The descriptive method of empirical research was applied. The research was based on the analysis of a questionnaire for nurses mentors. The goal was to find out nurses mentors views on efficiency of their mentoring, their opinions, on how to increase the efficiency of mentoring and how mentors evaluate their competences, difficulties, etc. Studys findings bring new insights and important recommendations on how to improve mentoring in nursing practice for students. The research showed that mentors needed pedagogical and andragogical knowledge. The results are important for improving the quality of nurses mentoring and positively affect their further education and professional development. It would also be important to establish a Slovenian, European and international network of nurses mentoring for university students in the future. This would have a significant impact on the international cooperation of nurses mentors, their efficiency of mentoring and better students nursing practice and employment.

Abstract: This paper investigates the probiotic potential of 4 strains of Leuconostoc mesenteroides (W9, W10, LY36 and LN31) identified phenotypically and with the MALDI-TOF technique. The strains were isolated from raw goats milk samples collected in the north western region of Algeria. The effects of probiotic tests on the strains demonstrated that strains indicate resistance to 33, 33% of the 15 antibiotics used, while none of the isolates showed hemolytic activity. Similarly, they were able to survive under conditions of acid, bile salt, pepsin and the stomach-stimulus test for 4 h at 37 C. Whereas for the percentage of hydrophobicity the highest value was (94.68%) for the LN31 strain whereas the low value was (78.92%) for the W9 strain. Auto-aggregation time of these four Leuconostoc mesenteroides strains was between 15 minutes with W9 and 75 minutes with LY36. While the co-aggregation of the strains tested for Leuconostoc mesenteroides with the Salmonella thyphi pathogen strain ranged between (47.55% for W10) and (68.94% for LN31). However, all strains tested have adherence to epithelial cells of the chicken colon with varying degrees of each other. These results suggest that strains isolate from Algerian raw goats milk have very good potential to be used as probiotics.

Abstract: The aim of this study is to determine the effects of incorporating the complex apricot kernel cake and cull dates on the fattening performances of a white population breed of rabbits. In total, 288 young rabbits of both sexes (1:1) aged 35 days were divided into 4 equal groups of 72 individuals, with 6 rabbits per cage, according to the rage of replacing corn by cull dates and soya cake by apricot kernel cake (0%, 10%, 20% and 30%). The change in weight between day 35 and day 77 was not significantly different between the different rates of substitution. The average daily gain (ADG (35 to 77 d)) displayed a significant difference for 20% and 30% groups (+6%), an increase in meat proteins for the 10% group (+8.8%) and 30% group (+5.6 %) and a reduction in lipids for the 20% group (-19%). The financial gain was 17.3 per hundredweight of food produced for the incorporation of 30% of the complex of dates rebus and apricot kernel meal in substitution for the maize complex and soybean meal.

CONSTRUCTIVISM: NEO-PIAGETIAN PERSPECTIVE

Volume 75, Sep 2019
doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2019.9.12

View Abstract   Hide Abstract   |   PDF Version
Abstract: Piaget’s theory of cognitive development has been in existence for many years, as the best description of how people develop cognitively; irrespective of where they are born, or whatever race they claim to be. While the theory claims to be universal; research has shown that, this is not the case for any given group of people, when it comes to formal operations, which is the highest level of cognitive development. Based on the title of this Paper; Neo-Piagetian Perspective came into operation, following the passing on of Piaget. However, one is tempted to question what is new? The terminology used “Constructivism” meaning being actively involved in what a person is experiencing for him/her to develop cognitively. The answer is positive. That is fine. But is not the same thing that is inherent in his theory? Therefore this Paper argues that, it is the emphasis placed on constructivism more than before that makes the difference. Given such emphasis, this Paper aims at exploring and assessing: Constructivism: Neo-Piagetian Perspective, as understood today.

Abstract: The objective of this brief Paper was to share with academics and other colleagues outside Teaching at College and University both in Africa and other Continents in the World, where I have studied and taught at both College and University. As a result of this, I have written Educational Psychology: An African Update Perspective 4th Edition. It has been in circulation for the past three decades. I have used it as textbook in Botswana, Transkei, South Africa, Canada and USA. In this Paper am showing how fulfilling it has been using such a Book. I have argued why there is need for revision of every now and then, which is a given in most Western countries, but not necessarily in South Africa. Given my personal experience among some South African Publishers. Despite such hurdles, I am publishing Educational Psychology: An African Update Perspective 4 Edition. Normally, the First Edition should have been rather difficult to publish, given that the Author is rather a novice in the Publishing Industry. The second edition should be rather easier, in view of initial experience gained in writing; and easiest, as one goes on climbing the ladder. This has not been my experience in South Africa. In fact it commenced being difficult when I embarked on the Third Edition. Not that I had declined in writing skills, but because the Publishers did not see the need for the Third Edition. It took ten years to get it published. I thought this was the most difficult hurdle, for me as an Author! But wait for a moment, before concluding thus! With the current Edition, it took fifteen years. Blame it on the Publishers!

Abstract: Copper (Cu), a trace element, acting as cofactors in enzyme-catalyzed reactions. At high level, Cu is toxic to biological systems. Petroselinum crispum has benefit effects on human health due to polyphenol and flavonoid contents. This study aimed to assess the parslay oil (PO) preventive effects on copper sulfate haematological disruption induced in rats. PO were obtained by hydro-distillation and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). In vivo study was carried out on twenty eight male rats divided into four groups. Group (1): animals orally received copper sulfate in drinking water (2000 ppm), group (2): rats were orally administrated with PO (0.42 mg/ kg), group (3): animals received PO and copper sulfate and group (4) was kept as normal control. It was revealed that PO contained Pinene (37.83 % ), Apiol (15.40 %), Allyl tetramethoxybenzene (14.72 %) , β-Phellandrene (8.11 %), Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (7.47 % ), Myristicin( 7.46 %), trans-β-Ocimene (2.70 % ), β-Myrcene (1.00 %) , γ-Terpinene (0.57 %). Haematological study showed that Copper induced an increased blood platelet and a decreased red blood cell rates. Copper induced a macrocytic anemia and jaundice with a change in hematological parameters whereas it was reported PO almost recovered these variables. Parslay oil displayed preventive effects against Cu toxicity. Therefore, parsley oil may have a chelating effect on Cu showing less toxicity.
