Abstract: The purpose of this research is to enhance student learning outcomes through the use of contextual teaching and learning. The method of this research is the action research done in class outlined as Kemmis and McTaggart. This model is a dynamic process describing improvement in a spiral of steps composing of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The result shows that there was an increase of arithmetic mean test scores from 61.5 in cycle 1 to 67.2 in cycle 2 with t test= 2.114. Due to this result was still lower than the target, so the research was continued to the cycle 3. There were also learning gains from 67.2 in cycle 2 to 76.2 in cycle 3. This result is higher than the desired success target with t test= 3.267 showing that it is statistically significant at the 0.05 level. It can be concluded that student learning outcomes can be enhanced through the use of contextual teaching and learning. Application of contextual teaching and learning in teaching and learning process can give the opportunities for the students to express their ideas freely, have creative thinking, and use their knowledge comprehensively so that the student learning outcomes will be increasing.

Abstract: The present article shows typology of special lexical units in American variant of English (AmE) in lexical-semantic field "renewable energy sources". Structural analysis of special lexical units in the sphere of renewable sources of energy was made. Single component and multicomponent terminological units, acronyms, acronymous collocations, nomenclature units, preterminological units and occasionalisms in technical texts of AmE in the sphere of renewable sources of energy were studied. Formation of terminological system in the sphere of renewable sources of energy was identified on the base of data received about numeral dominance of special lexical units having traits of terminological units such as single component and multicomponent terms, acronyms, acronymous collocations and nomenclature units over preterminological units and occasionalisms having no traits of terminological units.

The purpose of the study to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of credit received by the farmers of the village unit CU Merdeka Sempajaya with a sample of 34 people horticultural farmers who receive farm credit and 32 farmers who did not receive credit horticulture farming. In measuring the effectiveness of using a Likert scale that uses four indicators of effectiveness that is the right target, the right amount, timely, and appropriate, the result that use of agricultural credit CU Merdeka Sempajaya unit effective with the weighted average value for the four indicators of 2.89 , Farming efficiency is calculated by using the R/C ratio, the value of the benefit is smaller than one, and the value of farm efficiency horticultural farmers who do not use agricultural credit is greater than the cultivation of horticultural farmers using agricultural credit. With this research is expected to Credit Union (CU) in order to evaluate or correct the problems that occur in the achievement indicators for the effectiveness of the use of agricultural credit as the right target, the right amount, timely, appropriate and suggested to the farmers to utilize the loan / credit for farming in implemented in order to increase farm production which of course will positively impact the income of farmers concerned.

Abstract: This study extends the important debate on internal control practices (ICP) to third sector of the economy, non-profit organizations (NPOs). The central argument of this study is to investigate factors that influence current practices related to segregation of accounting duties that covers authorization, recording, and custodial functions among NPOs in Malaysia. Four factors were tested based on two categories, organizational characteristics (size and organization age), and governance characteristics (board size and level of auditors involvement). The study employs questionnaire survey as a method of data collection. In testing the hypotheses, inferential statistic multiple regression analysis was used. Findings suggested that board size and organization age have significant relationships with segregation of accounting duties implemented by the organization. Board size shows the greatest influence in establishing good internal control practices in terms of segregation of accounting duties for NPOs, followed by organization age. It can be concluded that proper guidelines on internal controls should be developed by regulating bodies such as Registrar of Society (ROS). As the majority of NPOs is managed by people with novice accounting knowledge, proper guidelines would help NPOs to strengthen their ICP in managing public funds.

Abstract: The article deals with the comparative analysis of physical health indicators of Nizhny Novgorod city schoolchildren and rural ones (Nizhny Novgorod region). The acquired results show that urban and rural schoolchildren differ significantly: modern rural schoolchildren have higher level of hand strength, heart rate fall, lower systolic pressure and higher diastolic pressure. Significant differences in total body indicators, mostly among boys, are revealed body length and mass, chest circumference. The remaining physiological differences between rural and urban schoolchildren are connected with the changes in natural and social factors of rural areas, the quality of which is becoming nearer to urban living facilities and influences the young generation in a proper way.

DEVOPS PRODUCT LINE ENGINEERING (DPLE): WHERE DEVOPS MEETS SOFTWARE PRODUCT LINES

Volume 72, Nov 2016
doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2016.11.35

View Abstract   Hide Abstract   |   PDF Version
Abstract: Shorter time-to-market, unstable requirements and continuous deployment cycles is leading to introduction of DevOps practices in software development process. At the same time, the role of software product lines has been rising as industry is demanding for off-the-shelf products, productivity & quality improvement, customer satisfaction, decrease in labor cost, time to market, leveraging existing resources, ability to enter into new markets & domains and to attain mass customization. Software Product Lines and DevOps share few common goals and also complement and supplement each other. The integrated DevOps Product Line Engineering approach raises the spirit of customer delight. It responds to requirements with utmost speed and meticulously. However, this integration process (DevOps-Software Product Lines Engineering) lacks theoretical foundation. There are no prior systematic studies performed. Hence, there is a strong need to develop customized Software Product Line Methods (SPLM)-DevOps adoption assessment framework which leverages the power of both SPLM and DevOps. This paper presents the comparison of Software Product Line Methods (SPLM) with DevOps and discusses various possibilities of integrating software product line with DevOps. It also presents proposed DevOps Product Line Engineering (DPLE) assessment framework.

Volume 72, Nov 2016
doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2016.11.37

Abstract: According to Piaget, combinatorial reasoning calls for systematic analysis of how various approaches can be used singly or in multiple use to find out an existing phenomenon or behaviour in a given situation. The focus of this investigation was to assess combinatorial reasoning in formal operations, as it obtains among university students in Kenya. The sample comprised 206 men and women selected from two universities in the City of Nairobi, Kenya, who were administered a questionnaire on combinatorial reasoning. Descriptive statistics were used for the analysis of data. The results showed that on the basis of percentage and chi-square the majority of participants had a mastery of combinatorial reasoning, thus confirming the notion that adolescents are capable of operating at the formal operations stage. The finding further confirmed the universality of Piaget’s theory of cognitive development.

Participants were administered a 15-questions/statements HIV/AIDS questionnaire. The method of data analysis comprised frequencies, percentage and chi-square. The results showed that there were three categories in the findings. In the first category for some questions, there were no gender differences. In the second category, there were gender differences in favour of male participants, while in the third category girls were more knowledgeable. In conclusion, it was advocated that, educating, motivating, persuading and enabling should be the chief cornerstone of HIV/AIDS public education campaigns.
