Ponte - Feb 2016 - Volume 72 - Issue 2 doi: 10.21506/j.ponte.2016.2.13 Abstract: Games have many pedagogical benefits and are widely used in education. Games enhance the motivation to learn, add variety to a lesson, enhance students’ confidence in their competence and add the elements of relaxation and fun. Well-designed games stimulate mental processes, and encourage meaningful verbal communication. This paper discusses the use of games as a tool in foreign language teaching, highlights the benefits and drawbacks of their application, and offers criteria for game selection.
