Abstract:
The aim of this study is to examine the multi-mediating role of serious leisure in the relationship between pet attachment and coping with stress through leisure. The study group of the research consists of 243 pet owners, 180 women and 63 men living in different provinces of Türkiye, selected by convenience sampling method. Lexington Pet Attachment Scale, Leisure Stress Coping Strategies Scale, and Serious Leisure Inventory-Short Form were used as data collection tools. The data were analyzed using Preacher and Hayes (2008) Process Macro Bootstrapping procedure and Sobel Z test. Pearson product-moment correlation analysis revealed statistically significant positive relationships between attachment to pets, coping with stress through leisure and serious leisure. Regression analyses revealed that attachment to pets was a significant predictor of coping with stress through leisure and serious leisure was a significant predictor of coping with stress through leisure. In the analyses conducted in line with the purpose of the study, it was concluded that serious leisure had a multi-mediating effect on the relationship between pet attachment and coping strategies with stress. As a result, pet attachment can be said to be a significant indicator of coping with stress through leisure. In addition, it was found that spending significant time and effort on leisure contributed significantly to this relationship.
